Sri Lanka is a wonderful place to visit at all times of the year. The country is amazing in the beauty. The country that was embroiled in ethnic violence till now was not a hot tourism destination. Now, with the fighting over and the people living peacefully, the nation is now again on the tourist radar of people from all parts of the world. The country is an island nation and so it has hundreds of beaches all over the country. Any person who is travelling to Sri Lanka will not only enjoy the beaches, but also enjoy the wildlife and all the other ancient monuments in the country. The country is one of the well known Buddhist nations and so there are many monasteries as well as other religious places. Many people go to the country on a pilgrimage to the place where the Buddhist monasteries hold various festivals from time to time. Some of the amazing beaches of Sri Lanka are the Ambalangoda beach, the Arugam Bay, the Batticaloa, Bentota, Beruwala, Hikkaduwa beaches. There are also some beaches at Kalkudah, Mt. Lavinia and Negombo. Other than the fun and frolic on the beaches, you can also have the time of your life as you participate in various water games like surfing, snorkeling. The beaches are pristine and that makes it very inviting. Some of the amazing places to visit in Sri Lanka The Elephant orphanage: This is probably one of its kinds in the whole world. This is the largest herd of captive elephants that are held here because of the various injuries to some of the elephants. There are many tourists who visit this place. You can touch the elephants and also take pictures of these animals. The orphanage for these elephants is located in Pinnawela, a lace that is present about 80 kilometers from Colombo. Heritage sites: There are many world heritage sites in Sri Lanka. Some of these are the City of Anuradhapura that is considered to be sacred. This has many monasteries and is a place where the fig tree where Buddha got enlightenment is planted. The jungles that surround the place also have many palaces and other structures that are very famous. The ancient cities of Polonnaruwa and the ancient city of Sigriya are also some of the very important heritage sites that are present in the country. Some parts of these cities are in ruins, but the amazing place is still beautiful. Wildlife in Sri Lanka The country is also home to some of the amazing animals other than the regular animals that can be seen all over the world. The country has a few national parks where you will be able to watch these animals in their natural habitats. The Yala national park and the Gal Oya National Park are two of the better known parks. Other than them, the Uda Walawe national park, the Wasgamuwa park and the Horton Plains national park are full of various kinds of animals that enthrall the tourists.
