Life is like a blank piece of paper. As that paper exists, so do we. However, just like that paper is blank, so too is our life until we create something out of it. Until that piece of paper is written on, there is no story no direction and no purpose but only the indubitable existence of endless possibilities. However, interesting things begin to happen as soon as we begin to write on that once blank piece of paper. A story starts to materialize, a direction begins to tug at us, a purpose starts to form, and a passion which gives meaning to life begins to set in. The same occurs when we choose to engage life. However, this engagement does not come without pitfalls. Regardless of the challenges or the pitfalls that we may encounter in life, we need to possess that indomitable spirit to write and live out our life's story in the way we want.

Imagine if we were confined to a wheel chair for a life time. Imagine undergoing 32 gruesome surgeries and spending 15 years in an orthopedic centre. Would we give up on life? Maybe, but not Ms Malathi Holla who, despite life's debilitating challenges and incapacitations, went on to win a Paralympics (a multi sport international event for the physically & visually challenged) Gold Medal. With over 300 International and National Medals , she has shown the world that life is surmountable , no matter what the challenges are , and through courage , perseverance and an undying spirit one can reach the most formidable of goals. In her biography "A Different Spirit", Ms Malathi Holla says "When I was small, I wanted to be first among my friends who used to run to the backyard to pick the fallen mangoes. I wanted to fly like a bird fearlessly from one place to another. But as I grew up I realized that you need legs to run and wings to fly. I was hurt, but I didn't give up. I knew, one day, I would run..". This evidently sums up her "Never Give Up" attitude.

We tend to give up when things do not seem to go our way or when times get tough. The belief that life will simply move on, give in to our demands, and allow us to achieve our goals is unrealistic. The truth is that life is neither for nor against us. It is simply just the natural process of existence. What we have to understand is that the power to determine the direction that our life takes is not decided by life itself, but rather by us. We hold the power, regardless of the challenges we may face. Take on the role of a winner and do not quit in the face of adversity.

Remember, everyone has challenges to overcome. Life is full of them. But let us be passionate about our dreams, and continue to push, even when it seems most difficult.

Never Give Up!
