The Poly cystic ovarian diseases as the name indicates is a condition that you must have heard of some time or the other. This is because the disease is very common and it affects quite a large number of women. This is also one of the leading causes of decreased chance of getting pregnant in women. What does Poly cystic ovarian disease do

The Poly cystic ovarian disease is one that affects the hormone cycle of the women. The hormones in the body of the women are those that help to make sure that the development of the eggs happen in a proper cycle. This cycle is interrupted in this disease. It has not been clearly understated how the interruption in the cycle occurs. The follicles are the bag like structures where the hormones help the eggs to develop. In the hormonal imbalance that occurs as a result of the Poly cystic ovarian disease, the development of many poorly developed ovaries or eggs occurs.

The most important factors that occurs is that since these eggs that have developed are all small and not mature enough to be released, they stay on in the follicles and develop into cysts.

Infertility and Poly cystic ovarian disease

The development of the cysts in the follicles from the eggs that were not released is a common feature. When the cysts develop, it also causes a further change in the hormonal levels. This causes a decrease of female hormones and an increase in the male hormones. This again causes the women to have a decreased chance of becoming pregnant.

Since this condition occurs in women in the child bearing age from 20 years to about 30 years of age, it leads to infertility in many women. This has a high risk of occurring in women whose mother or sister has been suffering from a similar condition.
