With Liberty and Justice For All | Same Sex MarriageBY: Norman Quidachay | Category: Issues | Submitted: 2010-08-05 03:18:28
What happened to marriage? To get married is a very important event for almost everyone. Everyone has the right to get married except those being outlawed on Guam. Isn't getting married to the person you love apart of the norm. However, what do you think if you cannot get married to him or her because it is socially unacceptable? People these days are not seeing the meaning of true love and union, but are too busy seeing the act of sin. It's not fair. Homosexuals just want a social right to get married. "Marriage is an institution between one man and one woman." Who says who marriage is to be defined by? Doesn't he or she get to decide who would receive the money stored in their accounts along with other belongings? You wouldn't want any of your belongings going to anybody, would you? Those against same sex unions may oppose because married couples shall be able to produce children. Two same sex humans cannot. It is just impossible. However, that does not mean they cannot get married. There are many married couples in the world that do not have children or cannot even produce one. Why treat gays as an outcast? It does not make them any different. People should have the assumption that gays have a choice in who they can feel attracted to. Many people actually believe that gays could simply choose to be heterosexual if they wished. But the reality is that very few do have a choice; they just choose not to because of the unwelcoming society they live in today. Once society becomes acceptable without any discrimination gays shall be liberated to participate in same sex union. So let's get on with it. Let's get over the silly oppositions, and faulty assumptions, and make ours a more just and honorable society, finally honoring that last phrase from the Pledge of Allegiance; "With liberty and justice for all." -The reason why I chose the topic, "Same sex union" is because I can relate. I am gay and sometimes I feel like no one can hear us speak. Sometimes I feel unaccepted just walking in a store. It's not that I am obvious about my sexuality; it's just all the dilemma going on making me feel this way. I just want to try and prove a point to make at least one person change their opposing view of same sex union. This topic relates to Guam because a bill was recently not passed in favor of legalizing same sex union.
