Rugs are an important aspect in the interior designing of a home. Area rugs help make a room feel cozy, especially during winter. The feeling of putting your feet down on warm rug is unbeatable. During the summer, it best to clean all those rugs and wrap them away to air out your home. Cleaning your rugs is essential before you pack them away. It's the simplest way to assure that your rugs retain their color and look.

Cleaning a rug cannot be done in the same way that you do a carpet. While some rugs are made of inexpensive material and do well in a washing machine, others are made of way too expensive material to survive the machine. Rugs that are Persian, silk, oriental, novelty or shag, antique etc need specialized forms of care. Such care is best left to the experts around. Each material needs to be treated in a different manner in order to retain its sheen yet clean it thoroughly and this is the work of experts.

The other reason its better to get expert care is because even the slightest bit of wrongful handling can lead to your rug being destroyed. A small ugly patch is enough to make it lose it character. Also rugs by and large don't run color, but the use of wrong chemicals can cause this to happen. Another effect could be an uneven wearing down of the rug. This is especially so with Persian rug. That's why professionals are best left to clean them.

In terms of maintenance, it would be a good idea for you to regularly clean your rugs. You will have to do this more often if you are located in an area where there is a lot of traffic or dust floating around. Vacuum on a weekly basis, but make sure you do it on low pressure. If you are dealing with foot rugs and other smaller versions. Giving them a good shake is more than enough. Don't be rough, but do so gently.
Doing this on a regular basis will ensure that your rugs don't need too much of professional care in the end.
