Answer: Project Management is a process which involves planning, organizing, securing and managing resources which an objective to meet project goals and objectives.

Question 2: What are steps involved in project management?

Answer: Project management involves understanding the context of the project, identifying stakeholders, defining objectives of the project, planning the project, implementing and evaluating the project.

Question 3: How important is feasibility study in project management?

Answer: It is the foundation stone of project management. A proper feasibility study increases the possibility of successful implementation of project and reduces the prospect of issues in project management

Question 4: How critical is risk management in project management?

Answer: Every project faces risks. Risks may arise from delay in the project implementation, higher cost and quality issues. Hence risk management is very critical and should be used a tool to ensure the timely completion of project.

Question 5: How important is to divide project into phases and how the same can be done?

Answer: Phase wise management of project ensures better control in the project. Depending upon the scope of the project, the project can be divided into different phases starting from conceptual design to implementation

Question 6: How important is leadership skill in a project and what is the role of project manager?

Answer: The role of project manager is very critical in a project. The project manager drives a project and hence needs to vision and strategy to implement project, give directions to project, aligning people and motivating them to achieve the objectives of the project.

Question 7: What is the role of cost management in a project and how the same can be achieved?

Answer: It is very important that the project does not exceed the cost which was estimated at the beginning of the project and hence cost management is very significant for a project. Cost control methods should be used in the project management to ensure that the project cost is within control. At each step of project management, there should be mapping of estimated cost and actual cost to measure deviation in the cost management.

Question 8: What is quality management and what role does it play in project management?

Answer: Quality management is concerned with controlling activities with the aim of ensuring that project meets the required quality standard. Quality management involves quality planning, quality assurance and control. Quality management ensures that a project is completed not only within stipulated timelines but also meets a certain standard which was set at the beginning of the project.

Question 9: How critical is communication management from the perspective of project management?

Answer: Since project is a team work, the role of all the team members in a project is significant. In order to ensure that the project is successfully completed there should be communication planning done in each project. Information distribution is a critical part of project management and there should be periodic review done with the entire team to gauge the performance of a project. A steering committee can be formed to ensure that the project performance is periodically assessed. There should be regular interaction between stakeholders to ensure that the issues in project are sorted out immediately through communication

Question 10: How can it be found that the project is moving in the right direction?

Answer: When the project is initiated, a project plan is drafted. This plan has milestones defined and also the timelines are defined for each milestone. There should be periodic review done to check if the milestones are being achieved. If there is any deviation, extra effort should be put bring the project on schedule. Also critical is the fact that analysis of delays should be done to avoid occurrence of such incidents in future.

Question 11: If a project is off schedule, what measures should be taken in order to ensure that the project is back on schedule?

Answer: In order to ensure that the project is back on track, extra efforts or resource allocation should be done. Though this may add to cost but by avoiding future delays saving can happen in future costs which would be beneficial for overall project.

Question 12: Can a standard approach be applied to all projects?

Answer: Though there are certain common approaches to project management, there are differences which arise from project to project as the requirements in projects differ.

Question 13: Can you sum up the challenges faced in project management?

The challenge in any project management is to achieve all of the project goals and objectives while honoring the preconceived project constraints. These challenges arise from constraints which are scope, time, and budget in a project.
