LED Lighting on Sujana's Radar

Sujana Energy, a part of $1.3 billion Sujana Group, is gearing up for increased action in renewable energy space. Introduction of LED lighting products, renewable energy power generation including biomass with solar, solar thermal power generation and solar photovoltaic lighting applications are on the company's radar. Sujana Energy is also developing energy management software that will help in monitoring the usage of energy.

These plans will be implemented by Sujana Energy in two years. To start with the Hyderabad-based company has entered into a partnership agreement with Japanese LED lighting major, Nichia Corporation. The partnership will involve development of LED lighting products such as solar LED lanterns, LED bulbs targeted at home use and LED lighting for streetlights. LED display is also in the pipeline. The $2.2 billion Nichia Corporation will offer LED technology to be used by Sujana Energy.

These products will be manufactured at the company's plant in Hyderabad, which has seen an investment of $5 million. The products will endorse the logo of both the companies. Hari Kiran Chereddi, MD of Sujana Energy, said, "The partnership will also involve joint marketing activities by Sujana and Nichia. We are bullish on LED lighting market that is evolving in India. We aim to rake-in top line of Rs 500 crore largely from LED lighting in three years."

Besides indoor, industrial and streetlighting segments, Sujana Energy intends to leve-rage on the National Solar Mission to convert 60 India cities to total solar powered cities. The mission is expected to generate opportunities for LED equipments to the tune of Rs 180 crore.
