Business News Channels have always addressed a niche market. Covering news predominantly related to stock market , these channels are watched by investors who want upto date information on changing market dynamics. Since investments in stocks need continuous update these channels cover news and events on stock market and some other areas of the economy. In India, the journey of business channels started with CNBC which has now got converted into multiple news channels which are 1) CNBC TV18 2) CNBC Awaaz 3) ET Now 4) Zee Business 5) NDTV Profit 6) Bloomberg TV Arrival of ET now has increased the competition in this segment significantly. Following the strategy of Times group, the news channel started with the strategy of grabbing the best talent in the industry. So, many news anchors who used to work for other English business channels are now part of ET Now. Also ET Now has felt the pulse of market and is offering programs in a newly packaged way. It has also signed exclusive agreements with experts which has ensured that the experts don't appear on other news channels.Since business news channels drive customers on the basis of the experts appearing on the channels, this strategy of ET Now has worked significantly. Additionally the channel has used advertising to spread its viewer base. As a result of all this CNBC TV18 has slipped to the second place and finds its viewership declining gradually. NDTV Profit and Bloomberg TV find themselves are laggards on this business. As fas Hindi news channels are concerned, CNBC Awaaz continues to be the leader with Zee Business doing well only in the specific segment like commodities. CNBC Awaaz has spread its viewership among Hindi speaking states very significantly with variety of news programs on offer.
