Trent Reznor was born in Mercer, Pennsylvania, USA on 17 May, 1965. His parents were Michael Reznor and Nancy Lou. He is an American composer, multi-instrumentalist (guitar, mellotrone, synthesizer, piano, vocalist, saxophone, keyboards, bass guitar, etc.), singer and songwriter, and producer. His genres of music were dark ambient, industrial metal, industrial rock, EBM (electronic body dance) and electronica. He got involved with music early in his life by associating with many synthesizer based bands in 1980s. He started composing his own music at the Right Track studios during closing hours with the name Nine Inch Nails (NIN). In the year 1989 he released his first album Pretty Hate Machine which was a huge commercial success. Since then he has released seven major albums under the banner of that studio. They are Broken, The downward Spiral, The Fragile, With Teeth, Year Zero, Ghosts I-IV and The Slip.

Reznor himself was influenced in great deal by David Bowie, who is an English actor, arranger, musician and record producer and the band Rush. Other bands that influenced him are The cars, The Jesus and Mary Chain, Soft Cell and The Cure along with musicians like Prince and Gary Numan. He himself influenced various young artists who either imitated him directly or made created music in truer and less imitative ways of his style. He has co-produced many other artists' albums, including Saul Williams and Marilyn Manson. With Saul Williams he worked for the albums The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust! in 2007 and with Marilyn Manson hw worked on the projects like the Portrait of an American Family in 1994, Smells Like Child in 1995 and Antichrist Superstar in 1996.

Trent also composed sound scores for video games. The credit for sound effects and music for id Software's game Quack goes to Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails. He has composed for movies also like Still, The Social Network, Men on Fire, etc. He won the Golden Globe award and Academy award for Best Original Score for the movie The social Network with Atticus Ross.

He came into the list of most influential people in year 1997 of Time magazine and was described by the Spin magazine as the most crucial artist in music. In 2007, Bob Ezrin who has produced for Kiss, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, and Alice Cooper, described Reznor as true visionary and advised wannabe artists to observe his no-compromise approach. He received the Kerrang! Icon from Kerrang! Awards in London for his venerable authority on rock music.
