Today we see that most of the children are sitting before computer and learning to operate it, before learning to write. The writing habit slightly decreases and everything is done in electronic format only. It is said that handwriting is a sign of the inner personality. In the olden days, handwriting is considered as an art and the people with good handwriting were appreciated by all. When typewriters were introduced, that was not used by many people. Bur, computers were being used by one and all, now. As computers have dominated our lives in all domains, handwriting is also now considered as an irrelevant skill and the writing habit is gone. Today, in school, much importance is not given to writing habit. The habit of giving homework to improve handwriting is also not in vogue. The parents want their children to study and get good marks rather than spending time to improve writing habit. Computers have created such a strong impact in our lives that even students of today have forgotten to write. Most of the students also prefer the use of computer for fear of misspelled words and because of having terrible handwriting, which are not legible also. Keyboarding is taught well in schools and the writing habit is not taught. In some schools, the note taking is done through computer. Such students completely forget the writing habit and they cannot even write a simple sentence, on a paper. Most of the offices and homes are having computers and the habit of writing letters is also gone. Everything is done now through Email and SMS. In offices, the employers have standardised the visual appearance of most forms. So, there is no need to worry about the handwriting. Those who have writing habit, will think and frame the sentence before writing in paper. The practice is changed now and the composing process has become very flexible in computer. Even if we make lot of mistakes, we can correct and take out a neat printout, finally. But, when the same job is done by writing or using typewriter, it is not possible. That is the main reason for the downfall of writing habit. Even in remote villages, people use computers. In the business world, small grocery shops also want to have computer. They don't want to encourage writing habit and work in the old style. So, the business world completely lost touch of writing habit and they want everything in electronic format now. The handwritten letters written by loved ones are preserved by many. But, the computer message has not got any personal touch. While writing novels and poems, the flow of thought comes fluently only by writing on a paper. When the same job is done through computer, the flow will not come. The writing habit keeps the feeling of the person who writes it. The writers, to improve the writing habit, can allot some time, for writing something on a paper. They have to carry a small notepad to note down the things which inspires them. Then, they can give a deep thought about it and finally can have a check for grammar, spelling and vocabulary. They can simply write in a way they talk. The children are to be encouraged to improve the writing habits so that they will have the personal touch of values in life, which is passed from generation to generation.
