Write magazine articles - Are there any better choices ? Authors are often looking for ways to write articles for magazines. Times have changed and writing for magazines and newspapers for money is gradually being overtaken by blogs and online writing. A decade ago, writing articles for magazines and newspaper columns was the only way to gain publicity as a successful author (not counting the novelists). All over the world the number of newspaper and magazine readers have been declining as more and more people are switching to the internet to search for opinions and articles on health, technology, social life and countless other topics. Although some magazines do see an increase in their subscriptions, but their numbers are few. Say thanks to internet, today anyone of us can be a web author and use advertising platforms on our web pages to generate revenue. There are several advantages of writing articles on the internet. 1. Writing articles online is free: There are several sites like this one and others like blogger where you can basically create a free account and start publishing your articles. 2. Your online articles have a long life than magazine articles: Most readers like to read only the latest issue of magazines. Once your article appears in a current issue of a magazine you will have several readers, but the moment a newer issue hits the stands, your article is almost history. Due to the nature of web, an article lives as long as the website hosting your article remains online, in most cases it is a very long time. People can read your articles whenever you want, infact if you have written a good article, search engines like Google and Yahoo will possibly direct users to your article even months after you published your article (if not years). 3. Money: As mentioned earlier, people can make money from their work which is published online by displaying Ads on them. Although authors writing for magazines will usually be paid upfront, while the articles written online will keep paying you for months. If the article is well written and gets enough web traffic, you can actually make much more money than what the magazine publisher would paid you (one time). 4. Ability to modify articles: It is not possible to make any changes in an article once it is published in the magazine. Whereas, online articles can be modified any time and you can keep the contents of your articles up to date or do any modifications that you like. 5. It's very easy: Modern day websites like this one make it very easy for authors to publish their articles. You require no technical experience and articles can be submitted using simple forms. 6. Is there a guarantee ?? Your articles can be rejected by the editor of a magazine, similarly there is no Guarantee as such that you will certainly make money online too because earnings depend on how many guest users click your Ads. Normal trend is that a well written article with quality content will usually draw good internet traffic and many visitors will indeed click on your Ads, generating money. 7. Nature lovers, this is your way to write articles: Unlike magazines which need a lot of paper and cutting of trees, printing articles on the internet does not result in any trees being cut down. This approach is more nature friendly. 8. Write when you want and not when a magazine editor wants: We believe the best articles are written when you really are in the mood to write them. Even if you are able to become a columnist, you will be almost forced to prepare an article (say every day or every week based on your contract terms), but in the internet world, you are the king, you write what you want and when you want. 9. Global reach: Articles published on the internet have a global reach. On the other hand most magazines are published in a specific region only. Limitations:Before you decide to become an internet author do some research yourself as web articles require to be optimized for certain aspects like keyword density and meta tags. There is also a lot of competition on internet and only the best authors do well. Note: I have never been an author for any magazine or newspaper.
