We say now that the status of women has been changed and they are treated at par with men in all fields. Previously it was said that the professions such as teacher, doctor, nurse and assistant only are suited for them. Now, we see women in all fields such as politics, engineering, police service, air force, scientific research and aeronautics. By this, can we say that women have attained full freedom?. No. Only very few women are found in the above fields. Compared to women population, their part is very less only. Actually, the women have to suffer a lot and sacrifice many things to achieve the goal. There are many hurdles for them, than men to enter any profession. The -after all lady - treatment- only given by colleagues and superiors in the field. They have to strive hard to prove themselves and show their fitness in the field. The gender-based discrimination is done in all fields, in all situations. The ladies have to work hard to come up, clearing all the knots. Women have unique and special requirements, such as maternity leave, child care or protection from gender-based violence and they should always be ready to face any attack, physically or mentally at all times. The country's laws and policies should provide protection to women. The freedom of movement is still a question to many. The women in many houses are treated as property, rather than as human beings. Can women choose anything in their life? Is the freedom of religion or belief given to them? For these questions, we cannot say a big -Yes-. There is a slight improvement than in the past. That much only we can say. The women still are not free from torture and cruel behaviour, inhuman treatment and degradation, for just being a woman. Nobody bothers about the treatment of women at home. Many women are treated as slaves. Many women have been prohibited from enjoying the full and independent use of their wealth. Many ladies are not permitted to enter into business activities. The education given to women is also being restricted by their parents and others. Choosing the profession also is not in their hands for many women. Continuing in the profession chosen after marriage is also a question for many. Are the women at work place treated with proper respect. Many men do not want to work under the control of a lady even when she is proficient and has the capacity to tackle any problem. The decision making is done wisely by women than men. The gender based treatment is very much seen in the work place. Even the small mistakes done by a woman is being criticized and if the same mistake is done by a man, it is ignored. Finally, we can say that partly the women have attained freedom and the position is better, compared to past. But, there is a long way to go for them to attain full freedom.
