Why adults prefer to be indoor in spite of benefits of outdoor activitiesBY: David Prakash Kumar | Category: Sports | Post Date: 2009-06-25
When all of us were kids, most of us spent the maximum time outdoors. Some living in the high rise apartments of cities may not have had the same luck. We all remember the days when we used to be elated when our parents took us for a walk or shopping. Outdoor activities meant fun. Just going out of the house used to be so much of fun. As we aged, so did the enthusiasm and the excitement to go out. Except for a few people who retain the same enthusiasm, all the others would rather stay home in front of the television rather than be outdoors. What is the reason for this sudden change, as we become adults? There could actually be many reasons for this change. This article talks of the reasons for adults preferring to be indoors over outdoor activities. 1. Normal ageing: As people grow older, they feel that they need the rest. They think that the rest is well earned after working in the day. So it is the attitude in the mind that makes adults avoid being outdoor. 2. Childs play: Adults also think that outdoor activities are for children and since we have crossed the stage where we have been outdoors, we should be indoor. 3. Television: Television plays a major role in adults staying indoor. There are various channels nowadays with a variety of programmes that keep almost all adults glued to their television sets. Adults are in front of their television almost all of the time they are at home except for the time they sleep. 4. Bringing work home: Some people think that it is not enough to work in the office, and bring home the files. This makes them stay busy with this and prevents them from enjoying nature and doing other outdoor activities. 5.Affluent Lifestyle: As the economy boomed, people started enjoying more and more luxury. So they prefer online shopping, door delivery and other such things to actually going out and buying things. Even if people go out, they zoom out on a vehicle and return back with no time to look around. 6. Urbanization: More people leaving the rural areas and migrating to cities. This decreases the chance of being out in the woods. As people flood the cities, new high rise buildings crop up. In apartments, there is very little chance of anyone enjoying the pleasures of communing with nature. All these reasons make people stay inside their own houses. This not only prevents the people from enjoying the pleasures of life, but also causes various health problems that could have been avoided in regular outdoor activities.
