Why I love writing articles onlineBY: Swati | Category: Writing | Post Date: 2008-06-24
Never in my life did I ever think that I would be writing articles, surprisingly enough, I love writing now. The typical image of an author in my mind was someone who wrote thick novels or experts columnists of newspapers and magazines. Infact way back I applied for a columnist position in two different magazines and was not accepted, because they wanted someone with an established experience in writing or references to previous publications. Today I have significant work experience but do not want to necessarily get associated as a columnist with any magazine or newspaper. About a year back, I started noticing the concept of blogs but I really did not know how to get people to come and visit my blog. Personally I did not want to spend a bunch of time figuring out how to market articles on my own (Jack of all trades .. master of none). Anyway I started off by submitting my articles to article directories which did seem to work well. This idea of writing articles on the internet is great for people like me who are not necessarily experts but certainly have decent knowledge about many topics which can be beneficial to others. I started of by writing articles about travel and later diversified into other topics. I love this site in particular because of their money sharing concept which is obviously an added bonus. I do not make massive money but a decent amount to motivate me to write more. I never force myself to write articles, I write only when I really want to write otherwise it gets boring. My schedule of writing articles is fairly sporadic, after a gap of few days, one fine day the author inside me wakes up and I write one or two articles in a row. Internet has truly changed the way people express themselves. I remember when I started writing, it took 3 days to write my first article of about 400 words. Now a days when I can write articles much faster, it is just as if you are talking to someone, instead of speaking, simply write down. As I said earlier, I am not an expert but some things have certainly improved for me over time including my typing speed, what I think and the length of my articles. Earlier I always use to concentrate on writing short articles of about 300 to 400 words, but from my experience longer articles do multiple times better than the shorter ones. I try to exceed 600 words if possible. I like to read newspapers, magazines and surf the internet, that does give me a lot of ideas on what to write. Articles that express just one's emotional feelings do not always do well, but those written related to work, current events, travel, finance and weight loss have attracted maximum readers. My favorite time to write articles is late evenings, preferably before going to the bed. Writing articles also helps me emotionally and mentally as it helps me to take my mind off from everyday monotonous work and do something different. I like watching movies too but i mostly do that on weekends. My advice to anyone who plans to start writing is to let yourself free, if you fix your schedule of writing 1-2 articles every day then the pressure of meeting a deadline will interfere your ability to write good articles. I also prefer submitting articles to websites who have been around for certain number of years and consider quality or quantity.
