Many of us get sick everyday, but it is not always that we visit a Physician for medicines. The reason is that there are some conditions or diseases that heal by themselves. One of the most common of such conditions is the common cold. The adage goes like this: A cold that is treated lasts for a week and an untreated cold lasts for seven days. This makes us understand that it is not always necessary to consult a Physician or seek medical help. For people in the developing nations, consulting a doctor for simple diseases will be like a joke, because due to the lack of medical help and because of lack of medical insurance, people do not consult a doctor unless they are very sick. The economically sound people may seek medical help even for minor problems. This brings us to the question as to what can be considered as a minor illness and which one is major needing immediate medical help. This article lists a few conditions where medical help has to be found immediately. 1. Loss of large amount of blood from anywhere in the body. This can lead to shock and a sudden change in the heart rate. It can lead to death due to decreased blood in the body. Blood loss can be common in people who have undergone surgery. It can also be common in women who are pregnant. It can also be seen in accidents. 2. When a person coughs up blood, immediate medical help is necessary. When blood appears in urine, it should also be treated as emergency. Blood in the cough can be due to any internal injury or damage to the lungs 3. When the lips and nails turn blue, then the person has to seek immediate medical help. This blue color is due to the lack of Oxygen supply to the parts of the body. 4. Difficulty in breathing that does not improve with rest may be associated with either sever respiratory problems. It may also be due to certain cardiac conditions. Most of these conditions need immediate hospitalization and the person needs to be treated with Oxygen therapy if necessary. 5. People who are in coma and people who are very weak that they feel faint and are unable to stand up also would be better in the care of qualified health professionals. 6. People who are unable to drink any fluids for more than a day due to any problem or those who are unable to urinate also need to seek medical help. 7. Others: Convulsions, abnormal stools, severe vomiting or diarrhoea are some of the other conditions that need immediate medical care. 8. APPLY COMMON SENSE !!
