Universal precautions are very important if a person is dealing with a person who is affected by any infectious diseases. There are many infectious diseases that are present and a person who is affected should be careful that they try not to spread the disease to hose around them. The people who are the caregivers for the affected person should also take care that the infection does not spread. The care givers may include the family members of the affected person and it may also mean the health professionals who are taking care of the person.

There are certain diseases that are very infectious and the people should be careful when treating or even caring for such people. Some of these infectious diseases include Acquired immuno Deficiency Syndrome, Tuberculosis, any viral infections and many other such infections.

The universal precautions that will help to contain the infection and prevent spread of the disease include:

1. Hand Washing:

Hand washing is one of the most important things that a person has to do because the hand washing can make the hands clean and prevent one of the first method of infection. Any cloth or even the surrounding things can be infectious and the person may have touched some of these things without knowing and when the hands are not cleaned, then the person has a very great chance of contracting the infection.

2. Wearing a mask:

Wearing a mask is another important thing that will help to prevent the person from getting any infection. This is because when the person is not wearing a mask, the person is exposed to droplet infection. This means that the person may breathe the air that is present and may be contaminated with infectious micro organisms. This can spread the infection too. This is the reason for the person to wear a mask at all times and is one of the important components of universal precautions.

3. Gown:

Wearing a gown is also a very important component of universal precautions because this can avoid splashing of the infected material from a patient on to the dress that you are wearing when you are near the person who has the infection. So gown helps to prevent the infection. Once the gown is used, it should be washed and also decontaminated before the use. Other things like gloves and even the mask can be discarded. These days, there are ‘use and throw' gowns also present that can be used.

4. Gloves:

Gloves is also very important when t\you are in contact with an infected person. This is because you may come into contact with the infected material as we use our hands to do all the work. A person uses the hands to do all the work and the hands can be contaminated. Hand washing may not entirely reduce the risk of infection. This is the reason for using gloves.

These are some of the most important methods of making sure that you follow the universal precautions when you take care of a person with an infective disorder.
