Sibling rivalry is a common problem that is faced by many parents. There are many parents who as children would not have faced the problem because of various reasons. One reason could have been the presence of too many children where the child does not have rivalry because there are many children It could have also been due to the fact that there were no children other than the person which may have been another reason for the lack of sibling rivalry.

Sibling rivalry is most common in the families where there are only two or three children. The sibling rivalry occurs because of the infighting between the children to draw attention to themselves or because of perceived favoritism. This occurs more in children who are nearly in the same age group. This sibling rivalry may erupt suddenly, but at all other times, it may be very calm in he house.

Parents who have no experience about sibling rivalry may deal in a wrong way with the child and this can increase the problem. This article gives the proper method of dealing with sibling rivalry.

1. Do not interfere:

The parents should not try to interfere too much in the activities of the children. The sibling rivalry is very common in many children and a healthy rivalry between the children is a healthy sign of competition. If the rivalry increases too much and it becomes dangerous, then you should interfere and make sure that the children and punished equally. Avoiding punishment for one child will increase the rivalry between the children. If you think that only one child is to blame, then make sure that you talk to the child and do not punish the erring child in front of the other child.

2. Try to be calm:

There are families where the sibling rivalry gets out of hand and the mother or the parents have a very tough time and are unable to control the child. Even in these situations, the parents should not lose their cool and instead try to deal with the situation in a calm and sensible manner. This is because when you are very severe with the child and lose your calm, the child will know that this is the method of drawing attention to themselves and try to repeat the activity which made you lose your calm.

3. Do not punish unnecessarily:

The children should not be punished without proper reason. This will cause them to be more adamant and cause increased rifts. As parents, you should punish them and also talk to them rather than punishing them without proper reason.

4. Never show favoritism:

As parents with more than one child, you should be very careful in your praise or punishment for each child. This is because it can lead to a charge of favoritism from your child. So at all costs avoid favoritism.

These are the various things that parents can do to try to solve the sibling rivalry problem in their family.
