Bacteria is helpful in many ways and can also be harmful to humans. So in order to get rid of harmful bacteria, you need to understand what is bacteria and the functions of bacteria.

There are three types of bacteria, some are round shaped, spiral shaped and some are rod shaped. Bacteria has only one cell which is called bacterium. Bacteria has a DNA floating inside its cell.

Bacteria also has flagellum on its body to protect itself from being harmed from anything and for swimming purpose as well. Some bacteria are helpful, some harmless and others who have no effect on humans.

Some helpful bacteria lives inside the soil and breaks down the dead plants which results in releasing carbon dioxide from the decaying material.

Some bacteria are harmful which may cause different diseases like pneumonia, tuberculosis and several others. You are always advised to clean your hands and food items before you eat because bacteria is omni present. If you swallow disease causing bacteria then you can get infected. Once a living being has been infected, it may cause sores and several other disorders which may be fatal to you if not taken seriously.

Bacteria is very fast in reproducing itself. It reproduces very fast in few minutes and multiplies into billions of bacterial cells under appropriate conditions. Scientists later developed several sterile surgical instruments that can kill bacteria. Clean food and clean drinking water helps us prevent from different diseases.

No one knew bacteria until the microscope had been invented by Antoni Van Leeuwenhoek . He found some small organisms in his scrapings of his teeth and named them as animalcules. Scientists also developed vaccines to prevent from diseases like poliomyelitis, tetanus etc.

Scientists later developed antibiotics which kill bacteria.
