Various diseases that can be caused by eating junk foodsBY: David Prakash Kumar | Category: Food and Drinks | Post Date: 2009-11-30
Junk foods are the cause of some of the major diseases that can be seen in people around us. Junk foods include all the processed and fast foods that are present. There are hundreds of fast food joints that are cropping up each day. This is because of the increase in the number of people who have stopped cooking in their homes because of lack of time. All these people have started eating out regularly. This regular eating out practice has had a great toll on the health of the people living in various parts of the world. The junk foods that are consumed are all processed. This causes all the essential nutrients to be lost from the food. This in turn causes the person to eat only the sugar and the oil from the food whereas the most important components of the foods are lost. The various diseases that can occur if a person eats a lot of junk food are: 1. Hypertension: Hypertension or increased blood pressure can occur in a person if the person is used to eating a lot of these junk foods. This is because these junk foods have a lot of salt in them. The addition of excessive salt in the diet can cause the person to have fluid retention and also an increase in the blood pressure. This can be avoided if the person avoids junk foods that are rich in salt. 2. Diabetes: Diabetes can occur in a person who eats a lot of junk food because when the person eats junk food, the carbohydrate that is present in the food is all stored in the body as fat deposits. This can cause the excessive presence of sugar in the blood leading the person to have diabetes. The diabetes in a person is also associated with various diseases like hypertension and so all these diseases can occur together in a person. 3. Blood cholesterol: The person who eats a lot of junk foods is also prone to have excessive cholesterol in the blood. This is because the person, who consumes a lot of fat and oil in the fast food which are usually fried, can have the fat deposits stored in the body. This causes an increase in the blood cholesterol, especially the triglycerides and the Low density lipoprotein. This too can be avoided by reduction and completely stopping the consumption of junk foods. 4. Heart diseases: The person who has all the above complications that arise out of consumption of excessive junk foods can also have heart disease that occurs. All these together can cause the person to have severe problems of the heart that is usually a block in the coronary arteries with the atherosclerotic plaques. These are the various complications and also diseases that can occur if the person consumes excessive amount of junk food. The junk food can be very dangerous. This is especially true for children who are used to eating junk food from a young age onwards.
