There are many people around us who are a little hard of hearing and these people are called as those with hearing impairment. There are usually many causes for their hearing impairment. The severity of the hearing problem also depends on the cause of the hearing problem. This article explains in detail about the various causes of hearing impairment. The knowledge about the cause will help in preventing the same problem from affecting us. At the same time, it will also help one to take preventive and also remedial measures for the hearing problem. The causes of hearing impairments include the following: 1. Old age: This is the most common cause of hearing impairment. This is usually due to the normal ageing process. When a person gets old, there is a decrease in the sensory reception of the brain and this can cause the hearing impairment. The older age group people can also have wax that has not been cleaned for a long time and this can also cause the hearing impairment. Another reason for the hearing impairment in old age is the problems and changes in the ear and the components of the ear that are involved in the process of hearing. 2. Congenital problems: Many people who have hearing deficits from the time of the birth may have it due to the congenital problems. There may be a lot of congenital problems that can cause hearing impairments. This type of hearing deficit is very difficult to treat. 3. Brain injuries: Some people who have brain injury may also have hearing impairments. This is because the brain is the central control of all the functions of the body. So when the brain is injured in any accident or even as part of a disease process, the hearing of a person can be affected. 4. Loud explosions: With the increase in the number of terrorist attacks, the number of people who become deaf and have hearing deficit with loud explosions are increasing and this is becoming a common cause of hearing impairment. 5. Diseases: There are various diseases that can cause hearing impairment in people. Certain diseases like rubella, encephalopathy hat affect the brain can cause hearing impairment in those it affects. These are the various causes of hearing impairments that can occur in a person. The most common methods of improving the hearing and treating the hearing deficit is to visit a specialist who is able to treat it. This is usually an ENT specialist. The basic thing that can be done is to clear the ear off the wax. This itself can improve the hearing in some people. Other than this certain diagnostic tests are done to identify the case of the hearing impairment and appropriate treatment given to improve the hearing. When the hearing does not improve, the person is provided or prescribed a hearing aid. This is the best method for a person to cope with hearing deficit. This also improves their hearing so that they will be able to lead a near normal life.
