Osteoporosis is a common condition that affects people o all ages and both the sexes. There are various reason for a person suffering from osteoporosis. There are also specific groups of people who are more at risk of suffering from osteoporosis. This is because person may be at ether high risk for this condition to occur or may have had certain diseases that make them to be predisposed for this problem.

The various causes of the osteoporosis are listed in this article as this will help those who are at risk with similar conditions top take preventive care to make sure that they do not suffer from this condition.

1. Medications:

There are certain medications that cause a person to be at risk of getting osteoporosis. This is because when people have to take drugs like steroids for conditions like asthma, nerve damage and various other diseases, the medications can cause lack of strength of the bones. This is the osteoporosis caused by medications. The loss of bone minerals or the demineralization process will cease after the person is stopped giving these drugs.

2. Inactivity:

Any person who is inactive for a long period of time, will also be prone to get osteoporosis. This is because when the person walks for a long time, the bones will not become weak. This is because the bones get strengthened as they are put to stress. When there is no stress put on the bones. The bony trabeculae become weaker and they get used to the lack of stress. Then one day when the person puts some stress, then the bones break because they have become osteoporotic.

3. Menopause:

Menopause is another important cause of osteoporosis. Women above the age of fifty are usually prone for this kind of osteoporosis. Adequate intake of Calcium is very essential for the person to be able to counter the effects of menopause.
4. Plaster applications:

When a person has a plaster application (total contact cast) due to some reason, then the bones can become weak because of the demineralization. This can be prevented and countered by giving the person graded weight bearing exercises after the person is removed from the plaster. This is very essential to prevent fractures following the osteoporosis.

5. Other diseases:

Other diseases can also cause the person to have osteoporosis. One of the common conditions where the person gets this problem is when there is some hormonal defect in the person. There are some other diseases too, that can cause a person to have this very disabling condition.

These are some of the conditions where the person gets osteoporosis. The person should make sure that they have adequate prevention methods so that they do not have the consequences of the osteoporosis. Adequate intake of Calcium by those who are at a risk of getting osteoporosis is very important as this will prevent this condition. Other than Calcium intake, the person should make sure that they also eat a balanced nutrition.
