Various causes for the under development of sports in India

India is a vast country and there are billions of people in this country. When it comes to the sports arena, there are only very few people who make it big in the various sports disciplines. There are various reasons for the under development of various sports and athletics in India. This article lists a few of the various factors involved in this.

1. Importance to one sport:

In India, the maximum coverage and importance is given to just one sport and that is cricket. This has led to various factors. One of the most important results of the importance that has been given to cricket is that all the other sports have not been given adequate attention and their due. This has led to various pitfalls. One is that there is no money available to develop other sports. Another fact that has happened is that cricket seems to be the only sport that is given more coverage in any programme. This has also led to the downfall of many of the other sports.

2. Corruption:

Corruption is a very important cause for the underdevelopment of sports in India. There are many people who excel in the sport, but they are asked to pay certain amount to be included into the teams at various levels. This causes discouragement among the athletes and they wither away. This is one of the most important causes for the under development of various sports in India.

3. Regional supremacy:

In India, region is considered to be very important. There is regional competitions helped and when a region is very good at a particular sport, adequate due is not given to those who perform well. The people from each region are selected even up to the national level. This causes discouragement to the people from a particular region who perform well. This also causes the various teams not to be the best as the organizers and the authorities try to please all the different regions by including one person from most of the regions.

4. Lack of various facilities:

Another important reason for the under development of sports in India is because of the lack of various facilities in India. India lacks adequate financial support to the athletes. This forces them to also concentrate on their education. Finally they are not able to concentrate on the sports they love, even though they have talent. This causes them to lose out. There are also other people who are not able to excel in sports because of the lack of adequate training facilities and infrastructure that is in place. With the existing facilities available, they are not able to compete with sports people of other countries who train in world class facilities.

These are the various factors that come into play when one thinks of the various causes for the under development of sports in India. Thinks are slowly changing now and there are more people who are excelling in various sports. If more care and infrastructure are provided, India will become unbeatable in all sports disciplines.
