It is said that using cell phones while driving is more dangerous than drunk driving. In India who are all using cell phone while driving? Many parents get the vehicle to the youngsters of their choice. In the present day, everyone has got a cell phone. We notice that many young boys and girls driving vehicles are talking over cell phone, all the time. One day, we saw a motorist hiding his cell phone inside the helmet, was talking while driving the vehicle. The policeman caught him by seeing his lip movement. Many countries banned using cell phone while driving and made it punishable. I heard that in one case, two boys were travelling on a motor bike, during night time. The driver was cautious and the person sitting at the pillion was talking over cell phone. When the driver noticed that one vehicle is fast approaching to crash against this vehicle, he jumped and escaped suddenly. The person sitting at the pillion died in this accident, as he was busily talking over cell phone and didn't notice what was happening on the road. So, the person sitting in the pillion in bikes/scooters should also avoid using cell phone. Many business people like to have business talk over cell phone. While driving the vehicle, they attend incoming calls and they are not even hesitating to make outgoing calls, as if to finish off all the business deals while driving the vehicle itself, by talking over cell phone. Some people say they are using only -hand-free- devices to talk on their cell phones. Will these people have concentration, while driving on the road? Due to drop in brain function, the drivers easily make mistakes such as coming out of lane and make their vehicle to collide with other vehicles or people, walking on the road. We see that the road traffic is also increasing day by day. The vehicle drivers and pedestrians should be very careful. The number of accidents due to talking over cell phone while driving is also increasing. The drivers may not have full concentration on the road if they involve in conversation over cell phone. It is horrible to note that some people even try to send SMS, while driving the vehicle. Some drivers suddenly move to the edge of the road, without showing any signal, if any incoming call comes in his/her cell phones. The vehicles coming behind him may have to balance and control speed. The using of cell phone while driving curtails the automatic driving skills of the driver and impair his traffic skills also. These persons will not respond immediately to signal or when some other vehicle comes close. The drivers may very well inform the usual callers that he will not be able to contact them for some time, as he is going to drive the vehicle. They may put the cell phone in silent mode so that they could call the persons who made incoming call after reaching destination. Seeing the vehicle traffic, they could reach the safe area, stop the vehicle and have a little talk, in case of emergency. The voice mail facility is useful in conveying the message, while driving the vehicle. The youngsters should be taught about the value of life and effects of distractions due to using cell phone while driving. The severe punishments may be given to those using cell phone, while driving. The parents may restrict the children to use vehicle if they use cell phone while driving. The business people should also understand that the lives of human beings are more important than their business deals. The media should popularize the adverse effects of using cell phone while driving vehicles. So, be a responsible driver and avoid using cell phone while driving.
