Everybody should aware of the disease "Acquired immune deficiency syndrome ", popularly known as "AIDS". In simple words, we can say that AIDS means a set of symptoms and infections caused due to damage to the human immune system. The virus known as -human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), causes this disease.

We need not fear about AIDS. The AIDS virus is not contracted through touching, hugging, drinking or eating from utensils used by AIDS infected person, lot of people have myths about AIDS. We can move well socially with the AIDS infected persons. The AIDS will not be spread by working or living with AIDS affected persons. The doctors say that HIV is transmitted through blood, semen, vaginal fluid and breast milk, which in turn results in AIDS. The HIV actually provokes an infection and destroys the immune system of the body. When the immune system becomes irreparably damaged, that results in multiple infections and cancer. The CD4 molecules on the surface of T-cells are destroyed and the body loses the defensive mechanism. The lymph nodes will also get affected by infected T-cells.

The AIDS is spread to other persons by having repeated sexual contact with a person having AIDS. While donating blood, it should be seen that the needles used are sterile. An infected mother can also transmit the virus to her baby before or during birth or through breast milk.

We should know about the symptoms of AIDS.The antiretroviral medication is the way of treatment for AIDS but it is little bit costly. So, prevention is better than cure. The disinterest in eating, weight loss, fever, fatigue, constipation, diarrhea, swollen glands, lesions in the mouth, cough, tumour, skin rashes, headaches, memory lapses, joint pains, vision problem sore throat, sweating and ill-health are the symptoms of AIDS. When the breathing problem continues with pain in lymph nodes, it is advisable to do a checkup for AIDS.

In the world, Africa is the most affected continent by AIDS. The reason for this is Africa has less access to basic health care and sanitation than other continents. As a result many people are not treated for the sexually transmitted diseases that help to spread HIV. In Uganda due to civil war in 1990, AIDS spread more rapidly than elsewhere in the continent. But while Uganda remains the UN's model for fighting AIDS in Africa, few other nations have followed its example. As per the estimation of UN, 3 billion dollars in a year are needed to safeguard Africa from AIDS.

A cure for AIDS must somehow remove every single one of the infected cells. As of now, there is no complete proof that AIDS can be cured by medicines and the medicines are gifts of God. They neither contradict nor resist each other. The research is still going on and we all hope that the scientists very soon will find a method for curing AIDS completely.
