Many common conditions can be treated with various alternative medicines. Some times these are more effective than the regular drugs prescribed by a Physician. This is because before the advent of pharmaceutical companies, these herbal medicines were used. These medicines have been used from ancient times.

Some of the common alternative medicines include acupressure, acupuncture and herbal medicines. This article gives a basic de scription about each of this system of medicine. Readers are advised to use their discretion while taking these treatments because these types of treatments may not be useful in all diseases.

1. Herbal Medicine:

Herbal medicine is the use of plants and plant based products to treat a disease or condition. This is as ancient as mankind. Legend and also eyewitnesses say that even animals eat certain kind of plants when they are diseased. Some of these have the power to cure.
Some of the common plant based medicines and their uses are:

a. Eucalyptus:
This tree extract gives an oily liquid. This is used in many Eastern countries to help decrease headaches and also cold. These are used as balms for pain relief.
b. Tea: Tea leaves are used to brew tea. This drink has been found to be a stimulant. This has been traditionally used in countries like China for the past several years.

2. Acupressure and Acupuncture:

Both acupressure and acupuncture are healing techniques based on the ancient traditional Chinese philosophies and techniques. This tells that a healing energy is present that is used to connect the various parts of the body. The points that connect are called as acupoints. The energy flow through the various channels are said to be the basis for good health.

In acupressure, the fingers, thumb, palms or elbows are used to apply pressure to the acupoints. This pressure dissolves any of the blocks that may have occurred in the channels and thereby heals the person of any illness.

In acupuncture, hair thin, sterile, disposable stainless steel needles are inserted into acupoints to dissolve the obstructions. The needles can be placed for a specific period of time and they may sometimes be rotated. There are times when a mild electric current is applied. There is no pain felt during the treatment.

The scientific explanation for this treatment is that these pressure and puncture techniques help in releasing the pain relieving chemicals that relieve the pain. Acupuncture and acupressure have been used to treat various conditions like anxiety, depression, stroke, various pains and aches. These kind of alternate treatments are gaining more and more acceptance around the world due to the lack of any side effects. This also does not cause any toxic residue in the body.
