There are thousands of tourists coming to India every year. Most of these tourists fly into India and then travel by train to different places within India. Train travel within India can be one of the most exciting aspects of your adventure.

India has one of the largest train networks in the world.
This is because of many reasons. Train travel is cheaper than air travel. Trains connect nearly all parts of India. Train journeys are very comfortable.

Important aspects of train travel in India:

1. Night travel:
Night travel is possible with adequate sleeping place on the berths provided in the train. The berths are foldable and can be kept folded during the day. Usually in most coaches, the berths are in three tiers and you may need to climb up to get into the upper berth.

2. Toilets:
Adequate toilets are provided. There are 4 toilets for every 72 passengers. Toilets are cleaned in almost all the major stations. Both Western and Indian closets are provided for travelers.

3. Air conditioning:
All major trains have air conditioned coaches. There can be up to 6 air conditioned coaches in the train, depending on the popularity in that particular route. The rates for these coaches are priced higher. In the air conditioned coaches, there are three different categories. They are three tier coacher have three tiers of berths. Two tier coaches have two tier berths. The first class coaches have coupes where you can have adequate privacy.

4. Fast trains:
Rajdhani Express is the name of the train that connects New Delhi with different state capitals. These trains are fully air conditioned. They are also very fast compared to the other ordinary trains. Food is provided in these trains.

5. Food on trains :
Food can be bought in all major stations from the platforms. Long distance trains have a pantry car from where food is supplied at a cost for passengers who need. Some trains like Rajdhani express supply food without payment. This is because the ticket cost includes the cost of the food.

These are some of the important aspects of train travel in India. Train travel can be an adventure in itself for people from other countries as some of the train routes are very scenic. It also helps you to meet people from different parts of the country with different cultures and languages traveling together.

For tourists coming to India, travel is not complete without a train journey.
