Blood donation is an act of kindness that helps the recipient of the blood that has been donated. Though this is a fact that is well known, there are a lot of health benefits related to the blood donation to the individual who is donating the blood.

The person who donates blood is able to help another individual in need. This makes the person who has donated blood to have a feeling of having done a good act. This improves the psychological status of the person. Very few people actually ever think of the good that occurs to the person who donates blood.

In fact many people do not donate blood thinking that it can cause various detrimental effects because of the donation. On the contrary, there are many health benefits to the person who has donated blood too. This article presents a few facts that might actually make more people to volunteer for blood donation.

1. Removal of free radicals: All people have iron content in the blood. This iron can help to allow normal functioning of the body. There can be sometimes when there is an overload of iron in the persons system. This increased presence of iron can lead to more free radicals being present. These free radicals can cause cellular changes that can lead to chronic diseases like Cancers and heart diseases. Thus the donation of blood and the subsequent decrease in the free radicals in the blood is a potential health benefit for the blood donors.

2. Heart disease: Blood donation on a regular basis has been found to have had a decrease in the occurrence of heart disease. This is especially true in males. Thus there is lowered risk of heart disease with blood donation.

3. Joy: Studies have found that donating blood have helped people who have donated blood to feel elated. Those who are depressed for various reasons in life have become less depressed after donating blood. This is also true in those who have not been depressed. Blood donation can help the individuals to have a feeling of having done a good act.

4. Diagnosis: People who donate blood have their blood pressure and glucose levels checked. This is the point of time when many people are diagnosed with high levels of blood pressure and also diabetes. Thus donating blood regularly has been found to identify diseases early in many people. Thus it has helped people from getting worse with the disease.

Precautions:

Though blood donation in itself cannot cause major problems, there are many precautions that blood donors have to take before donating blood. The blood donation should take place in a registered blood donating laboratory. This will prevent the person from getting any blood borne infections or needle borne infections.

These are the various health benefits related to donating blood. People have to understand that donating blood is not only good for the person receiving the blood but also for the person donating the blood. This will help more people to donate blood and save more lives.
