A few years back, only the rich, mighty and famous were able to fly. This was because of the increased cost of flight tickets. Only people who were rich could afford to fly. Now with the increase in a number of budget airlines, even the common man is able to fly. In fact every year more and more first time flyers are seen. This is also due to the economic growth that was on a fast track.

Though the world is going through a recession and the number of companies, there has been only a marginal decrease in the number of people who use flight s for their travel. A number of airline companies are reducing costs by decreasing the number of flights and also increasing the costs. This might have contributed to the decrease in the number of airline companies, but consolidation is healthy for the airline industry.

For the people who use the flights for the first time in their lives, there might be some apprehension regarding the safety. There are a number of ways of increasing the comfort of travel too. This article talks of the ways of having a safe and comfortable flight.

1. Check the flight status before going to the airport: It is sometimes better to check the status of the flight before going to the airport. Almost all airlines give numbers where you can con tact them regarding the flight details. These days, there are a number of flights that get delayed due to various reasons. You will save a lot of time, energy and money by just making a phone call to ascertain the status of your flight instead of going to the airport and finding that your flight is delayed.

2. Onward journeys: Most people who travel will have an onward journey, due to the unavailability of direct flights to your destinations. These connecting flights are the most common reasons for difficulties and delays. Try to book your connecting flight in advance to minimize delays. It is also better to confirm this flight at least one day in advance.

3. Check in: Stick to the check in timings of the airlines. Even if not specified, it is better to check in at least one hour in advance for domestic flights and up to three hours in advance for an international flight. This will prevent any last minute problems that may cause to miss the flight. It is better to be early to have a comfortable, safe and happy flight.

4. Things to carry: During the last few years, there have been a lot of restrictions on what people can carry on flights. It is better to leave anything like pen knives, scissors, nail clippers, screw drivers and other such objects in your home. This will help you go through security faster. It will also prevent delays in checking. Some countries may have stringent rules where you may be interrogated for trying to carry these things on the flights.

5. Luggage: Try to carry lesser things, unless absolutely necessary. This will help you to have a more pleasant journey as you do not need to push and pull these heavy stuff. It is also very expensive n flights to carry excess baggage. This will help you have a more happy and comfortable journey.

Following these tips will ensure that your journey on a flight is safe and also comfortable without any undue delays.
