Coin collection otherwise known as numismatics is one of the well known hobbies. This is a hobby which gives a good return and is never a waste. Even stamps, collected by stamps collectors may not seem valuable if they are not in the right hands. But the value of coins and bank notes will certainly be known by all. After all, everyone who works in this world do it for the sake of money.

Before going into the details on expanding your coin collection, there are things which you will need to know about collecting coins.

Commemorative coins:

These are coins released by the various governments for special occasions. Very few of them are in circulation. So they are more valuable. Also certain coins are sold to collectors directly by the mints. These are still more valuable. These coins are the commemorative ones.

Banknotes:

Collection of currency notes or bank notes are also part of numismatics. Various countries issue currencies of various denominations. Collectors are very keen to get all of them.

Other than these, there are ancient coins which are very valuable and people keep them like treasure.

Now for the ways of expanding your coin and bank note collections:

Trade them:

You will have a few coins of your country. You can search on the internet for exchange partners and can exchange with them. Care needs to be taken not to exchange valuable coins till you are confident that the other partner is not a trickster.

Collect from your friends and family:

When you have decided to take up numismatics as your hobby, spread the word around to your relatives and friends to expand your coin collection. Tell them to pass on coins that seem valuable. Also you can collect some commemorative coins that are in circulation. Also collect coins from different mints, though they may be of the same value.

Other ways of collecting and expanding your coin collection:

Try to be friends with money changers and foreign exchange dealers. They may pass on to you different variety of notes and coins from different countries for a small premium. this will greatly help you to expand your coin collection.

Purchase from e-bay is also possible, but try to compare the prices between various sellers to make sure that you are not taken for a ride.

Now a day, people are forming groups on social websites and even certain yahoo groups are dedicated to various hobbies.

These are a few simple ways of expanding your coin and bank note collections.
