If a person has a high risk for getting heart attacks, are there any simple ways of reducing the risk? This is the question uppermost in the minds of people who are at a high risk of getting heart attacks. There are a few lifestyle modifications that can lead to a healthy lifestyle. These are actually simple things that can be done by anyone with high risk. This does not need medical intervention. All that is needed is will power and motivation. Quitting smoking: Smoking is a major high risk for heart attacks. If you are a smoker, then quit immediately. This is the best method of reducing your risk. More than all the risk factors, smoking is very high risk behavior. There are various organizations that help smokers to kick the habit. Losing weight if you are overweight: Losing weight is easier said than done. This is known by all those who are obese and have tried out various diets and exercises. But if a person is in the high risk profile to get a heart attack, then it is all the more important that you try to decrease your weight. Exercising regularly: Exercises are easily done. They help control the obesity and also prevent the person from leading a sedentary lifestyle. Aerobic exercises are the best. Regular exercise helps reduce the risk of heart attacks and also help in reducing the blood pressure. Eating well-balanced, nutritious meals that are low in fat, cholesterol, and salt, and high in fresh fruits and vegetables: This diet is the best that a person with hypertension can have. This balanced food will help control the hypertension and also decrease the risk of heart attacks. Sea fish is good rather than meat. The decreased salt intake helps in reducing the hypertension. Fruits and vegetables give a feeling of being full and help to control the hunger and also have a lot of essential vitamins that is good for health. Limiting alcoholic beverages to no more than one ounce of pure alcohol or two drinks per day: It is better to avoid alcohol. There are some studies that suggest that taking alcohol, especially red wine helps is good for health. The decision has to be made by the individual. This is because sometimes taking alcohol in small amounts may eventually make the person addicted. Following these simple ideas will help an individual to reduce the risk of heart attack and also to reduce hypertension. This will also cause a lifestyle modification leading to a healthy lifestyle.
