Heart attacks are fatal in many people. There are some people who have survived even 4 heart attacks. The reason for this is the variation in the area of the block in the heart. The arteries of the heart are blocked in some people, usually due to the deposition of fat and this causes the lumen or the size of the artery to be narrowed or reduced. This causes a lot of difficulty when the blood flows through the arteries of the heart. This difficulty may suddenly increase or the artery may be completely blocked and this is the cause of the heart attack in the person.

There are certain people who are at an increased risk of getting a heart attack. They are said to have a higher risk factor. This group of people should take very great precautions to be able to prevent the various problems and consequences of the heart blocks.

The people who are having a higher chance of heart attacks are those in the following category or those who have the conditions mentioned here:

1. High blood pressure:

This condition is also called as hypertension. The flow of the blood through the arteries is labored and this causes an increase in the blood pressure. This is a very high risk condition which can cause the person to have heart attacks.

2. High blood cholesterol:

This is a condition that is also called as hyperlipidemia. There are various kinds of cholesterol in the body. The high density lipoprotein is the good cholesterol and this level should be high. The low density lipoprotein is dangerous and its level should be low. The level of the triglycerides should also be low in the person to have decreased chance of heart attacks.

3. Obesity:

The obesity that is seen in people is also a high risk of heart attacks. The reason for this is that the person who is obese could have other associated problems like hyperlipidemia.

4. Stress:


Increased stress is also another cause of heart attacks. The relation is probably due to the fact that if a person is stressed, then there is a high chance of the person having increased blood pressure.

5. Smoking:

A person who smokes has a very high chance of having heart attacks. The reason for this is that smoking increases the deposition of fat in the arteries by initially causing damage to the arteries.

6. Diabetes:


Diabetes is a condition that has a very high risk of causing heart attacks. The reason for this is that diabetes usually causes a lot of other complications in the person and this includes increased blood pressure and other conditions.

7. Atherosclerosis:


Atherosclerosis is the condition where there is plaque formation in the heart arteries and they can cause the person to have a high risk of causing heart attacks.

8. Genetic predisposition:

A person whose parents have had heart attack at an early age are at a very high risk of getting heart attacks themselves because of the genetic component that is involved.
