Acne is a medical condition that is commonly seen in many young people. There is a reason for the occurrence of acne more in the people of the younger age group. As the child grows and nears puberty, there are a lot of hormonal changes that occur in the child. These hormonal changes cause the child to have an increased release of oil from the various pores in the face and the chest. This oily substance is called as the sebum. The sebum is a very sticky fluid that blocks the various pores of the skin through which the sweat goes out. All these cause the person to have small pustules forming in areas where these is excess sebum and also decreased pores.

There are various reasons for the formation of these pustules that are called as acne or pimples. Some can be prevented, but others are non modifiable. These causes include the following

1. Age:

The age of a person is a major factor that causes the formation of acne or pimples as it is commonly known. The formation of acne starts from the age of about 10 to 13 and peaks at about 17 to 20 years of age. In some adolescents, it can persist up to the age of about 23. There are some people in whom the age factor has minimal effect because they seem to have acne even when they are older.

2. Heredity:

The heredity also plays a role in the occurrence of pimples. There are many people who have had parents who have had no pimples and the child also is not at risk of getting this condition. At the same time, there are some people who have pimples and their parents seem to have suffered a lot from this condition. This has made

3. Diet:

The diet that the person consumes is also another cause of the pimples. People who eat oily food are more prone to getting this condition than people who do not consume oily foods and also chocolates. This can be avoided to prevent the acne from occurring.

4. Cleanliness:

The person who keeps the face clean has lesser chance of getting acne. People who have dust and grime on their faces have a higher risk of having pimples because the dust can also close the pores and this can cause the person to have the sebum increase in the tissues leading to acne. Frequent washing of the face will help to prevent the person getting acne often.

These are some of the common causes of acne in adolescents. There are also other causes that are not so common, but can cause acne. Simple measures to keep the skin clean and washing the skin with mild soap will prevent the person getting acne.
Prevention is very important because once the person gets acne; it is difficult for the person to get the acne off. Though there are natural remedies and also medications for the removal of acne, it is best to prevent the acne from occurring.
