Lima beans as the name indicates are a product of South America, specifically Lima in Peru. These beans have been used from ancient times for their health benefits. These beans are mainly grown in the tropical regions, though they are also available in almost all parts of the world. They are also consumed in all parts of the world.

They were grown in all parts of the world after their seeds were taken and planted around the world by travelers in ancient times. They did this because of the amazing health The lima beans that are fleshy and also having tender skin and are green in color are the best to eat. These also have the maximum amounts of health benefits.

Lima beans are commonly called as butter beans because of their wonderful taste which is like eating butter.

The health benefits of Lima beans include the following:

1. Proteins:

Lima beans are loaded with huge amount of protein. This is a wonderful gift of nature to man. Any food that is natural and is loaded with protein will help the body in many ways. The protein rich food will help to prevent the person from becoming obese if consumed regularly. The reasons are multifold. Protein rich food will help to prevent the person from being hungry. This will help the person to consume less amount of food. This in turn will help to reduce the weight of the person.

2. Muscle build up:
The Lima beans have large amounts of proteins that are useful in the buildup of muscles. The build up of muscles will help the person to have a decrease in the weight. These people also have less fat in the system. This is because the muscles need a lot more calories to work. So all the fat in the body and excess calories are used up by the muscles. This is another method in which the Lima beans help to reduce the weight of the person eating them regularly.

3. Nutrients:
The lima beans are loaded with many other nutrients apart from the high protein content. These include many vitamins that are useful for the optimal functioning of various body parts. The lima beans also contain phosphorous and calcium that are very helpful in the mineralization of bones. When these elements are present in small quantities in the body, then they can cause diseases like osteoporosis. This is the reason that they are used in preventing bone disorders.

4. Preventing cancer:
The lima beans have got certain substances that prevent the normal cell from becoming into cancer cells. This anti cancer properties is also one of the most important health benefits of lima beans. In fact almost all the varieties of beans help to reduce the risk of cancer in a person.

5. Fiber:
The fiber content in lima beans is very high. This high fiber content helps t prevent the formation of complications in the digestive system that include constipation and even colon cancer. The fiber in the diet adds bulk to the stools and prevents the diseases mentioned above.
