The most common reasons for nose bleeding and their managementBY: David Prakash Kumar | Category: Health and Fitness | Post Date: 2009-11-04
Nose bleeding is one of the most common conditions that can be seen in people of almost all ages. There are various reasons that are the cause for the nose bleeding. The nose bleeding can be very minimal to profuse bleeding depending on the reason for the bleed. The treatment of the nose bleed also varies depending on the reason for the bleeding. The various reasons for the nose bleeding are listed in this article. 1. Injury: One of the most common and ever possible reasons for the nose bleed is any injury that can occur as a result of falls or accidents. The nose injury can also occur when a person falls on the face and it can lead to either a tooth injury or a nose injury. It is also common in many contact sorts and also various sports like boxing where it is a very high risk injury. The common cause of bleeding in these types of injuries is the break in the nasal cartilage also commonly called as the bridge of the nose. This injury is one that causes profuse bleeding. The best method of treating these types of injuries is to apply an ice pack over the injured nose and the bleeding will soon stop. 2. Nasal polyp: Nasal polyp too is a common cause of nose bleeding. The nasal polyp can break suddenly leading to the bleeding. This can be treated by excising the polyp before it breaks 3. Dryness: Another reason for nose bleeding could be the dryness that is present in the nose. The dryness can be prevented by applying some lubricant over the nose. In many people who pick their noses, if the dryness is present in the nose, it can cause bleeding. The lubrication of the dry nose is the treatment and prevention method for a person with dry nose. 4. Nasal infection and congestion: Another common reason for the nasal bleeding can be nasal infection and the nasal congestion that can be present in an individual. When an individual sneezes, the force of the sneeze can rupture the membranes and cause nasal bleed. This is especially true if the sneezing is prolonged and repeated. These types of nasal problems can be treated to prevent the nasal bleeding from occurring. 5. Nasal carcinoma: This is one of the rarest causes of nasal bleeding. The nasal carcinoma can have a high risk of causing bleeding that is not easily controlled. This nasal carcinoma should be treated by excising the carcinoma which is the best method and following the excision, to prevent further growth, the individual should undergo further management for the carcinoma that can include radiation therapy and chemotherapy. These are the most common causes of nasal bleeds with their respective treatments. Prevention of nasal bleeds is very important because when the nose bleeds once, the dry scar is present in the nose and can act as an irritant again and can cause repeated sneezing attacks that can lead to further bleeding. Another reason for controlling the bleed is that nasal bleeds can cause very high amounts of bleeding.
