Eggplant is not a very common name in many parts of the world. It is a plant that originated from India and was fist cultivated for its beneficial effects in China. From China, it found its way to all corners of the world. There are many health benefits that can be got from the eggplant.

The egg plant has different names in different parts of the world. It is called as eggplant in America, aubergine in Europe and Brinjal in parts of Asia and Africa. Many people have considered this plant and the vegetable to be poisonous in ancient times. It has crossed such paths to have become one of the most used b\vegetable in places around the world.

The health benefits of eggplant or brinjal are:

1. Nutritive value:
The brinjal or eggplant has a lot of vitamins and nutrients. It contains vitamins like B1 and B6. It also contains a good amount of potassium, copper, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, niacin, and folic acid. This high nutritive value of the brinjal makes it one of the most important vegetables.

2. Diabetes: The eggplant has been found to have a great impact on the sugar levels of a diabetic person. Eating brinjal is the natural method of controlling diabetes. This effect of the eggplant is because of the low levels of carbohydrate in the eggplant and also because of the fiber present in the vegetable. The eggplant is especially useful in preventing and reducing glucose levels of Type II Diabetes.

3. Cancers: Brinjal also has anti oxidants that help to prevent cancers. This is because the anti oxidants present in the eggplant helps to clear off the free radicals from the body of the individual. When the free radicals, which are the cancer causing agents, are cleared off from the body there is very less risk of the person getting cancer. The substances like Monoterpene, nasonin, and anthocyanin that are present in the brinjal are the main reasons for the prevention of cancers.

4. Cholesterol: Eggplant has another important health benefit which is the ability of this plant to lower the cholesterol levels of the individuals who consume this. The cholesterol lowering effect of the eggplant also plays a major role in reducing the risk of heart disease.

5. Weight gain: Eating vegetables like the eggplant can help in reducing the weight of an individual. The reason is nothing fancy, but very simple. The vegetable contains a lot of moisture in it. It is also low in calories. So this can be eaten regularly to effectively control obesity.

The egg plant or brinjal is a very colorful vegetable (some people consider it to be a fruit). Almost all colorful fruits and vegetables have been seen to have anti oxidant effects. The eggplant or brinjal as it is known can be cooked in many different methods and so one does not get bored eating this vegetable. The only precaution is that people with arthritis can avoid this vegetable as it is said to increase the pain related to arthritis.
