Lentils are one of the most common foods that are seen all over the world. People who have little of any other food can afford o buy lentils. This is because of the availability of the food. Since it is easily available, it does no mean ha the food is no really beneficial for the body. Lentils have many more health benefits than many common food sources. The most important health benefits of lentils are listed in this article.

Lentils are very common dish in Eastern Europe and in India. His is a dish that was commonly served to millions of people during the war time in various countries. It takes very less trim to cook and also it has many health benefits which are he main reasons for this dish being given to prisoners and fighters alike.

The important health benefits of Lentils are:

Nutrients:

There are many nutrients in Lentils. Lentils are one of the best sources of protein. This is a very important thing because one of the most common diets for losing weight is a protein rich diet. This is the main reason hat lentils can be used to reduce the weight of the individual. Lentils also have many other nutrients that are very helpful in the regular body functioning. Some of the other nutrients that are present in lentils are folic acid, soluble and insoluble fiber. The fiber in the diet helps to reduce various diseases.

Anti oxidants:
Lentils have a lot of anti oxidants in them. These anti oxidants that are present in the lentils as in any other food play a major role in reducing the risk of cancer. This is because anti oxidants remove the free radicals that are present in the human body. The free radicals if present increase the risk of cancer in an individual.

Diabetes:
The fiber that is present in lentils is a very good source of preventing diabetic changes. Any food rich in fiber helps to prevent wide swings of blood sugar levels. This is because of the decreased rate of digestion. When the digestion rate decreases, the carbohydrates are absorbed more slowly from the digested food into the blood stream. This is the reason for the decreased blood glucose levels for long time when a person is on a diet of lentils.

Heart disease:
The fiber present in the Lentils is also a very important reason for the decrease in the incidence of heart disease. The fiber rich food prevents the person from eating more food. This is because the fiber is filling and reduces hunger. This in turn reduces the fat deposits and prevents heart diseases.

Digestion:
The presence of a lot of fiber in the Lentils helps to increase the level of digestion in the individual. This also prevents constipation because the fiber absorbs the water and there is increased roughage in the stools because of the lentils. This also plays an important role in preventing colon cancer.

These are the most important health benefits of eating lentils.
