Caffeine is a drug that kills thousands of people every year. Though the awareness on the ill effects of caffeine has been on the rise all over the world, the number of people who have been using caffeine has been on the rise. This is due to the fact that caffeine is masked in various drinks and food products. This causes subtle addictions. This leads to further intake of caffeine.

Long-term intake of caffeine in various products can kill a person. This is the reason caffeine has been called as ‘pet poison'. The ill effects and health problems associated with caffeine have been proven beyond doubt.

Source of caffeine:

Coffee:
The roasted coffee seeds from South and Central America, Arabia and India.

Tea: The tealeaves produced in China, Japan and India

Mate Tea: Leaves from Paraguay and Argentina

Guarana: Ground seeds of Paullinia from Brazil

Kola / Cola: The dried kola nuts from West Africa, that is chewed in African countries

Cocoa: The crushed seeds of the chocolate trees from Central America.

Effects of caffeine intake:

1. Stimulating effects:
The early and most important effect when coffee is drunk is that it causes a stimulation or excitation of the nervous system. There is a rapid flow of thought after drinking the coffee. His effect is due to the presence of caffeine. This appears to overcome the fatigue and drowsiness.

2. Sleeplessness: The caffeine in the drink can cause the person to overcome the drowsiness. The person who drinks any beverage containing caffeine at night usually suffers from restlessness and the inability to sleep also called as insomnia.

3. Addiction: When a person who habitually drinks any beverage that contains caffeine stops intake of the beverage, then the person becomes tired and fatigued. It can also cause tremor, restlessness, sleeplessness and nervousness. These are typical signs of addiction to drugs. This is because the body has become addicted to caffeine and needs more caffeine to satisfy.

4. Soft drinks: Various colas in the market are loaded with caffeine. This is the reason that drinking these are very harmful for children as well as adults. The soft drinks also contain a large amount of sugar. The sugar and the caffeine content in the soft drinks make them like a ticking time bomb that is waiting to burst and cause all kinds of ill effects on the health of the individual who regularly drinks them.

5. Caffeine and stomach ulcers: It has been found by prominent researchers that caffeine in various drinks cause the exacerbation of stomach ulcers. This is because of the non-neutralizing effect of the caffeine. It stimulates more gastric juice production increasing the acid levels in the stomach leading to increased risk of ulcers.

These are the various ill effects on the health that are caused by regular intake of caffeine that is present in various beverages. The best way to prevent these health problems is to discontinue these drinks. Though the effects of caffeine may not be obvious, there are minor changes happening in the body all the time that can cause permanent damage to the health of the individual.
