Walnut is a type of nut that is very tasty just like almost all the other nuts that are edible. They have a taste that is wonderful and almost all people like them. Many people do not eat nuts thinking that they contain high levels of calories. Recent research has found that walnuts and other nuts are in fact good for the health of a person.

The various health benefits of walnuts are listed below:

Walnuts are a healthy source of omega 3 fatty acids. These are like miracle food that helps to reduce the levels of low density lipoprotein which is also called as the bad cholesterol. The omega 3 fatty acids also helps to increase the levels of high density lipoprotein, which is also called as the good cholesterol.

This balancing act done by the omega 3 fatty acids in the walnuts help to maintain the levels of cholesterol and even lower it. The most important health benefit though, is the prevention of heart attacks and related problems because of the decreased fat deposits on the coronary artery walls.

Walnuts are also having certain antioxidants and these help to prevent cancer in the person. The main substance in walnuts that prevents cancer is ellagic acid.

5. Nutrients:
Walnuts also have large amounts of nutrients that include minerals and vitamins. These nutrients help in muscle build up of the patients. The muscle build up will help to prevent the person from storing a large amount of fat, as the rate of metabolism will increase. This in turn will help to decrease the weight of the person. This is another related health benefit of walnuts.

Another health benefit that can be got from adding walnuts to the diet is that these people who eat walnuts have been found to have less incidence of liver ailments. The reason could be that metabolism occurs mainly in the liver.
