Emphysema is a condition that affects the lungs and the respiratory system. When a person is suffering from this condition, there can be a lot of changes in the respiratory system of the person and also in the general health of the person. Just as in any disease condition, the person affected by this condition can have severe breathing problems. There can also be associated cough and the production of excessive sputum. All these make the person weak and fragile unless they are able to consume a diet that is balanced and provides all nutrients and essential food to the body.

This article lists the best diets that will help a person with emphysema to be able to regain their strength. In fact a person affected with this condition can be treated effectively with the diet to regain their usual strength, endurance and also stamina.

1. Losing weight:

The person should make modifications in their diet to make sure that they lose weight. This is because as a person loses weight, it is easier for the person to be able to breathe. The load on the heart and also the lungs are decreased. This causes the person to lose weight and lead a healthy life. There are various methods of losing weight and they include measures like a high protein diet and a low carbohydrate diet. Avoiding rich foods and fried foods will also help to reduce the amount of calorie intake and help in reducing the weight of the person.

2. Smaller meals:

The person affected by this condition should make sure that they eat small and also frequent meals. This is because it is easier for the person to breathe when they eat a smaller meal. This is because breathing on a full stomach is difficult. The mechanism, of breathing is hindered by the full stomach that prevents the lung from expanding fully because of the presence of the enlarged stomach after a meal. This is the reason for people suffering from emphysema being advised to reduce the intake of food and instead eat meals that are small and frequent.

3. Salt free diet:

The salt that the person takes should be decrease because the salt in the diet can cause water retention and this can cause increased weight which causes an increased load on the lungs when the person takes a breath.

4. Balanced food:

The person who is suffering from emphysema should make sure that they eat a healthy and balanced food that contains all the minerals and also vitamins. Adequate amount of protein should be present. This will keep the person healthy and strong and also to cope with the existing condition.

5. Vegetables:

Increasing the amount of vegetables consumed will also help the person because it has a lot more fiber ands is also easily digested. Boiling and eating vegetables is very good for the health of a person suffering from emphysema.

These are the various aspects of diet that a person suffering from emphysema should consider to become healthy again.
