The advantages of growing rose plants from cuttingsBY: David Prakash Kumar | Category: Home Improvement | Post Date: 2009-09-13
Rose plants are grown in almost all countries where the climate is right for these plants. Women around the world love roses. Roses are seen in different colors and different sizes. Different colored roses are given for different occasions. This is the reason for the popularity of Rose plants. Planting and growing a rose plant is not very easy when compared to most other plants. This is because of the death of many plants when they are replanted. Rose plants also cost a lot of money to purchase from a nursery. The cost may increase depending on the type of plant. What are cuttings: Rose plants are usually grown from their cuttings. This means that a rose plant that is already healthy is cut and the cut part is replanted to grow another plant. Most of the plants from these cuttings may die, but it is worthwhile to replant a rose plant from the cutting because of the advantages that it offers. Some times, the cuttings are replanted when the rose plant is being pruned. This gives the added benefit of not having to cut the healthy rose plant unnecessarily. Advantages of rose cuttings: 1. Saves money: Replanting from a rose cutting instead of buying a new rose plant obviously saves a lot of money, especially if a person has a big garden. The rose cutting can be got even from many nurseries at a rate that is a pittance when compared to the actual cost of the rose plant. Some nurseries may even give out the cuttings free when they prune their plants. 2. Hobby: Rose gardening is a worthwhile hobby. It creates a feeling of satisfaction for the person doing the gardening when the plants flower. Looking at the rose plants in full bloom gives a sense of happiness. This can even creates a feeling of elation in depressed people. This is one of the reasons many depression patients are advised to take up gardening as a hobby. Things required for rose planting: There are various things that are required for a proper cutting of a rose plant and replanting the cutting to ensure that the cutting does not die, but grows into a healthy new rose plant. These things are: 1. Sharp scissors: The scissors used to cut the rose plant should be sharp for the cutting to survive. If the cutting is not cut smoothly, then the cutting will not survive. 2. Pot: A small pot to replant the rose cutting is necessary. If a small pot is not present, initially, the cutting can be planted in a small plastic bag that is filled with soil. 3. Vitamin B: This vitamin increases the formation of root. The most important thing in a rose cutting for its survival is root formation. So adding small amount of this vitamin in the soil can help to stimulate root growth and increases plant survival. 4. Safety: The rose cutting should not be shaken till it starts growing, This is because movements can decrease root formation and can kill the cutting. This is the simple method of growing a rose plant from the rose cuttings. Article Source: http://www.saching.com About Author / Additional Info: I am a physiotherapist and also a freelance writer.
