Approaching coaches and recruiters on your own is one option while using recruiting services is another. Having good grades, keeping an eye on your eligibility, playing exceptionally well and following NCAA rules and regulations are factors that can land you a full scholarship and bring you success in college sports. Your success in college sports will almost guarantee you a spot on any professional team. Several agents will come knocking on your door to represent and market your skills and abilities.

2. Professional Sports
Millions of dollars can be made from professional sports. Whether you are a professional athlete, a coach, sports agent, analyst, broadcaster, director or manager, there is an opportunity for anyone who wishes to enter the sports industry. The business of sports is highly competitive. You must be influential, honest and capable of building strong and effective personal and business relationships.

3. The Practical Steps
The country you reside and the environment you grow up can affect the road map to your dreams. If you are contemplating securing a full athletic scholarship to the United States or Canada, you will have to go through some practical steps outside your athletic abilities. If you are an American or Canadian Citizen, you will have a much easier time than your counterparts who are seeking opportunities from overseas to the United States. Adjustments are inevitable when you are making moves to compete and play overseas. Bear in mind that full athletic scholarship is available in the United States only to outstanding athletes that deserve them. To achieve your goal of playing professional sports and signing a lucrative contract, you must take the right path and make the right decisions. Apart from networking and contacts, four key practical issues must be addressed thoroughly and fulfilled before you can have any chance of succeeding starting with academic requirement.

a. Academic Requirements: It is extremely important that you maintain a reasonably high level of academic competence so do not ignore your school work. You must check the websites of the colleges or schools you plan on attending to find out what their minimum academic requirements are and start working towards meeting that standard. See more details about academic requirements in chapter 14 of my book -How to Achieve Your Sports Dreams.- The SAT or ACT are two scholastic aptitude test that you cannot ignore. They are required to test your ability to do college work so start planning early to take the test prior to graduating from high school.

b. Physical and Athletic Abilities: Your physical and athletic abilities are the talents, the skills you need to prove that you are deserving of an athletic scholarship or a playing contract. You must consistently polish and develop them to have an opportunity to compete at the next level. Get into strength and weight lifting programs. Work on areas that can make you a better athlete.

c. Fundamental and Technical Knowledge of Your Sports: Even though your physical and athletic abilities will land you an athletic scholarship, your knowledge of the fundamentals and technicalities associated with your sport is what will enable you succeed to the highest level of competition. Join a sports academy and select a coach or a mentor that can help you understand patterns of play designed for your sport. You should also study by reading sports magazines, books and visiting websites that can enlighten you about the sports world.

d. Visa Requirements: When applying for a student or visiting visa from your home land to the destination where you will be playing, ensure your recruiters understand that the consulate has to be informed about your arrival before your interview date. A dual citizenship from Europe, Australia or New Zealand can help you in the future. It can open up professional contract opportunities when you eventually want to go pro. Many professional teams overseas have a rule that allow a specific number of import players per team. If you are a citizen of such country where this rule is enforced, it will be a chance for you to take advantage of your dual citizenship to join any league you desire.

Once you have met the four practical steps based on your country of origin and can effectively combine your mind power with specific qualities already outlined above, you are in a better position to achieve your goals within a reasonable time frame. You must stay away from trouble and always try to do the right thing. Obey the law as best as you can. Avoid alcohol, drugs and womanizing. You are the cynosure of all eyes and anything you do will be made public. Your character, friends you keep, habits and lifestyle will determine how long your sports career will last.
