Team of medical professionals necessary in managing diabetic foot

The management of diabetic foot can have many challenges. A person who has diabetic foot can have many complications and preventing these complications are the primary aim of any health care professional. This is because if the complications are not prevented, then it can cause the person to have severe foot ulcers that can even lead to amputations. In a few people, the associated septicemia can even make it fatal to the person.
A team of professionals is necessary in managing diabetic foot. The team members and their role are detailed in this article.

1. Physician:

This is the person who plays a primary ole in the foot care and also the glycemic control of the patient. This person will ensure that the person's diabetes is under control. This will help the person to be able to control the diabetes better. This in turn will prevent further complications that may occur because of the disease.

2. Ophthalmologist:

The ophthalmologist will help to prevent various eye complications that may arise from causing damage to the eye. This is very important because the person with increased diabetes is at a very high risk of having diabetic retinopathy. The person is also at a very high risk of getting cataract. Regular eye check for all the people affected by diabetes is very important for the person to identify eye complications early enough to prevent any problems.

3. Nurse / Health educator:

The nurse is usually the health educator who helps to teach the people who are affected by diabetes to be able to control the various complications caused by diabetes. This education is very important because with the knowledge that the patient gains from the health education, they will be able to learn more about the disease and also cope with the disease. So the role o a nurse is very important. Physical therapist: the physical or other therapists are also very important in the assessment of a diabetic foot for any complications like neuropathy. The therapist does sensory and also motor assessment that helps to identify the risk factors.

4. Podiatrist:

The podiatrist is a very important team member in the identification of any foot complications that may be present. The person assesses the biomechanical changes that are present in the foot and then helps to modify the biomechanics and then make it into normal alignment which will help the person to prevent foot deformities.

5. Footwear technician:

The person who identifies the foot problem and produces the footwear also plays a very important role because it will help the person to prevent foot problems like ulcers if the footwear is appropriate. This is another important team member in the treatment of diabetes.

These are the various team members for the treatment of a person with diabetes. All the people in the team are equally important if the patient has to prevent the complications that are possible when diabetes affects the person. So any person wanting treatment for diabetes will benefit from each of these team members.
