Tactful survival during a layoff

What is meant by layoff?
When the situation of a company reaches a worst situation and the employer feels that he can not control the declining of revenue, he analyses the areas of expenditure cut off. The first thing he gets in mind is to reduce the cost of employees which results in layoff. Even though the company pays compensation to the employees at the time of lay off, it is really very tough for them to get a suitable job immediately. The employee starts to feel -how I was chosen for layoff, how much I worked hard to bring up the company and am I am treated as one among the mass to be sent out, when not required-. The employee should learn to manage the situation very tactfully at the time of layoff.


Don't be sentimental:
While joining a company itself, he should make up his mind to quit off very gracefully at any time. He should not keep any personal sentiments or attachment to the company dealings. After all, he is getting his pay and other benefits, as long as he works there. That ‘s all. In all aspects of life, change is inevitable and it may happen at any time. To accept any change with open heart is good and he should not lose self confidence at any time. He should be very bold and think about survival at the time of layoff.

Save for the future: The employee should not get the habit of spending all the money he earns. He should keep an amount apart for future. he has to invest in real estate, shares, jewel and deposits, regularly, when he earns. Some companies help employees to get a new job. If he gets an opportunity, he should use it wisely and stick on to the job he gets, even though it may be of less value at the beginning, because survival is most important. At the time of layoff, he can demand a sizeable amount as compensation from the old company, if he gets no help to find out a new job.

Don't blame anybody: While coming out, he should not put any blame on the management of the old company, as he may require a reference from them, while searching for a new job. He has to put all the efforts to find a new job. He can spend more time with family members and enjoy the pleasure, even if he gets a break. He should take everything positively. He should develop a good friends' circle working in the same type of job which helps him to get a new job easily.

Priorities may change at the time of layoff : When many projects are in progress, priorities may change and any employee can not dream that he may not be touched at the time of lay off as he is in important project. Those who worked at the critical time, may get a chance for retention. The employee has to think whether he will get that chance, when there is a talk about lay off in the company. Sometimes, the people in lower ranks will be chosen at the time of layoff. The employees who has to face the worst situation of lay off, should not show the feelings of fear, shock or grief to the employer, while coming away.

The U.S. market creates an impact on Indian IT companies also. So, the people working in Indian IT companies also should analyse whether there is any danger for the job, when the economy of U.S. is in threat. Many people feel that having worked in a reputed company, how to seek a job in a small company. Working in a place and getting regular salary is most important. So, at the time of lay off, the workers should be very cautious.

There are many ways for survival at the time of layoff. The affected employee has to think wisely and act, according to the situation.
