Why the youth commit suicide ? with full enthusiasm in this age only. The expectations will be high in this age. Due to confusion and anxiety, they can not withstand very small disappointment or failure. They think that they can do anything and everything, without fearing about consequences. If the result is negative, they may not be able to accept it. They choose suicide as a means to escape from everything. The reasons for suicide among youth: 1. Mental depression 2. Alcohol use. 3. Addiction to bad habits. 4. No support from family. 5. Mental problems. 6. Failure in exams. 7. Failure in getting job. 8. Torture in work place. 9. Inferiority Complex 10. Not ready to accept failure. 11. Lack of support in family. 12. Over exposure to media. Steps to prevent and stop the suicide among youth: 1. The family members should give full support to the dejected youth. If the concerned person is in grief, they should not question him much. They need not indulge in fault finding or comparing with others. They can advise in a gentle manner and divert his attention to some other things. If they see change in behavior of the child such as showing no interest in any activity, threatening to kill himself, quarreling unnecessarily, trying to run away from home, turning violent, using abuse words, writing suicide notes and not sleeping well, the parents and other family members should become very cautious in changing the mood of the child and try immediately to bring him back to the normal mood. The parents should prove that they will give full support to him, at all times. 2. The parents and other family members should not make them busy all the time. Definitely, they have to spend some time for the child. They have to talk and share the feelings of the child. 3. If the performance in school is poor, the teachers should give special coaching to the students. They should not blame or tease the children. They have to inform the parents to take extra care. If the teachers notice a sudden change in behavior, then also they have to intimate it to the parents/guardian. 4. If the parents feel that the child may not get through in the exam, they should prepare themselves and the child for accepting the failure. If the child faces a sudden failure, the parents and others should give full support to make him cheerful. 5. Proper treatment and counseling should be arranged when the children turn towards alcohol use and addiction to bad habits. There is no use in scolding them. 6. When the children suffer from depression, parents and friends should try to find out the cause and help him to come out from it. 7. If the child is suffering from a disease, proper medical care should be arranged. If the child is unable to bear the pain or suffering, he may think about suicide. The encouraging words such as -You will get well soon- may help to please the child. 8. Looking after the youth who have got mental problems is really difficult. The attendants should always keep a watch and proper treatment should be given. The steps for recovery should be taken by giving due medical care. 9. Everybody may not get a good job, after finishing studies. The parents and family members should not irritate the youth for not finding a job. They may help him to a get a job. 10. The young persons, especially women, may have to face torture in work place. They may fear to talk about it even. The friends and relatives should watch them keenly and help them to solve the problem. The employers should also see that there is no problem for employees in the work place. 11. Due to inferiority complex, some youth choose suicide as a remedy. Nobody should try to tease them for any deficiency in physical appearance or in performing activities. 12. The youth get good and bad news through the media. If they fail to choose the right, that may end in an attempt to suicide. The parents should watch the children and prevent them from over exposure to media. The youth should enjoy all the pleasures in life. They should learn to accept ups and downs in the life. They should develop the habit of facing any challenge. The relatives and friends should give full support to the youth . The youth should understand that suicide should be just a word in the dictionary and should not be practiced in real life.
