Slumdog Millionaire has grabbed eight Oscar awards (in year 2009). It's the first time that a Bollywood movie has got such a huge honor at the Oscars. It was a really good depiction of the life at Slums of India. Although this movie has been directed by a British national, most of the talents/actors used at the movie were from India. The performances of small children selected from the real slums of India are really mind blowing.

Even the music talents like AR Rahaman and Resul Pookutty were able to show their talent on a global stage. They too have been honored with the Oscar awards. It was the need of the time that our Bollywood industry to create a movie in English language so that it can reach International audience. Slumdog Millionaire has proved its effect. Though many Bollywood movies were able to get some decent market outside India, Hindi language itself could not convince them. But Slumdog Millionaire has done the experiment of bringing a Bollywood movie in English and so it become world famous.

It is true that Slumdog Millionaire is not a general picture of India. Slumdog Millionaire has received the criticisms that, the movie has been exaggerated and is an uncommon situation in India. Although its uncommon, still today there are many families living in slums and there are rare cases wherein they are able to come out of their lives and achieve great things. It is true that if a person can come from a difficult childhood, he would be most enthusiastic to achieve great things and his experience of stepping up from such a low level, would make him to reach very high level. So, Slumdog Millionaire cannot be termed as unrealistic.
