Success: by Chance or by ChoiceBY: maftab92 | Category: Self Improvement | Post Date: 2009-03-24
The definition of success differs from individual to individual. For some people it might be wealth and for others it might be a healthy relationship. For example, a house wife might see success as having a healthy relationship with her family by keeping her house in order. A businessman might like to accumulate wealth to become successful. A student might work hard to achieve success in his academics. A social worker might see success in helping others. Mostly people have myths and misconceptions about success and they think that successful people are the lucky ones. The fact is what we see is based on our perception. In reality success is not a matter of being lucky and success is not by choice rather one has to choose to be successful. Remember! Every successful person has a painful story. Success is not a result of a series of successive attempts but a series of failures. We have a true story of Abraham Lincoln, who failed in business at age 21; was defeated in a legislative race at age 22; failed again in business at age 24; overcame the death of his sweetheart at age 24; had a nervous breakdown at age 27; lost a congressional race at age 34; lost a senatorial race at age 45; failed to become vice president at age 47; lost a senatorial race at age 49; and was elected president of the United States of America at age 52. So, his success story was not by chance but by choice as he kept trying and didn't quit. We all know the history of Thomas Edison too. Behind his success there was a painful history. He also decided to achieve success and kept trying despite having difficulties. Look at a child when he is playing. He is present in here and now, he is fully focused, he is persistent and has enthusiasm. This is what is needed to become successful. If we look at successful people we see they have unique traits like: • They use the power of imagination and visualization • They have goals, which motivate them • They have beliefs, which empower them • They look for solutions • They work hard • They do what they love and love what they do • They learn from the past, look up to the future and live in the present • They acknowledge that every experience is a learning experience • For them there is no such thing as a failure but only feedback The conclusion is that success is not by chance or by luck but by choice. What do you think when I say success is by choice? Napoleon Hill says -anything which, your mind can conceive, you can achieve-. Human mind is full of potentials and we need to learn to utilize the mind by directing our thoughts on whatever we want to achieve. Put your focus on success, imagine success and affirm -I am successful- and you will be able to direct your thoughts on success. This is how we create our own realty and success becomes our destiny.
