It is not before one experiences it closely that one realizes the agony that comes free with the pursue of studies abroad. Giving it a thought is one thing, but when the vision turns into realism it brings with itself tough mental challenges. No doubt, studying abroad is a dream-come-true… but little attention is paid to the small but significant psychological aspects of this achievement.

The thought of living in the United States or UK or for that matter Singapore or Australia, is unquestionably miraculous… fantasizing being in USA is something not unfamiliar to many, specially youngsters who have very high and positive ambitions. The treads, cracking the ‘Test of English as a Foreign Language' (TOEFL), getting hold of the admission confirmation, applying for scholarship, obtaining it, applying for VISA, getting it, booking the flight tickets, and packing the bags, deciding which dresses to take, all are exhilarating, exciting and sets the pulse racing… but then, when time comes…when not more than 24 hrs are left to board the flight that will head to an unknown country, a land to be discovered and known and more importantly inhabited for the next few years, the mental anguish somewhere peeps…to say the least one has to be extremely strong mentally to do away with any sorts of emotional hindrance.

The student has to realize the circumstances that will prevail when he/she is away from mother, from motherland; from family, relatives and friends for a long period… he/she has to accept it mentally that ‘The Winner Stands Alone'. Yes, he/she is already a winner, but let that not have a negative flattering impact. Only being able to go abroad to study cannot be an achievement, one often fails to realize that and ends up doing what he/she had not gunned for.

Being abroad to study is just the beginning…one has to complete that... the psychological side of things are also a reality. Parents, I've have seen, crying with excruciating pain of almost losing a child…for parents that insecurity, that anxiety becomes unbearable at a point… stories of going-and-not-returning perhaps haunts them…but all these for the sake of a brilliant and bright career that would lead to being a successful human being that many only can dream of is worth it…

Its about quality education too
Indian institutes do not rank too well in global competence. Students who go abroad and get education the tag of FOREIGN EDUCATION are highly valued in Indian jobs, that is a fact. I think if you can afford foreign education, GO FOR IT !

Brain drain ..
Every year India loses a large percentage of the best and brightest citizens to other countries like USA, UK, Australia. Most students who go there never come back. They settle in foreign lands, just to live as 2nd grade citizens. Did you read about attacks on Indian students in Australia.. horrible..
