The custom of burning incense as an offering to GOD is as old as civilization itself. India, the cradle of civilization has all along nurtured this custom and diligently developed it into a full blossomed art of blending perfumery in the form of AGARBATTIS. Also, known as incense sticks or joss sticks, outside India. Agarbatti has assumed great importance in the daily life of every individual. The pleasant and sweet smoke emanating from Agarbattis has carried the enchanting perfume to the world from ancient period. The burning of aromatic woods (Sandal wood) started from that time and gradually played important role in daily rituals. Agarbattis are manufactured in different varieties and fragrances by judiciously blending perfumed compounds and other ingredients like camphor, clove, sandalwood, kasturi manjal, saffron, sweet smelling flowers like rose, jasmine, green jasmine, oils of fragranced flowers, and aromatic woods to suit different occasions. Medicinal herbs are used to create soothing atmosphere. Gum Arabic and Charcoal, which have oxidizers, are used as binding materials and they help in burning the Agarbatti. It reduces stress and anxiety. Also it reduces the bad smell of the body. It also soothes body aches and pain. The highly placed executive, the housewife or people seeking transcendental meditation - all have one common thing to say - i.e. " THE FRAGRANCE OF AGARBATTI OR INCENSE STICK IS SOOTHING, STIMULATING, REFRESHING AND INSPIRING".
