There is no need to splurge thousands of Rupees in coaching centres if one can prepare the GRE test systematically. From hearsay of successful students, I would say that one can do a very good GRE even preparing at home. Start your GRE test preparation a year earlier. Most students find Verbal section the most difficult, therefore please begin by reading Word Power Made Easy By Norman Lewis. This book traces the root of the word and then the meaning. It is beautifully itemised in chapters. Once you get your grip on this book you will never forget the words. There are also many exercises at the end of chapters. Next step is to Get hold of Barrons GRE test preparation Word List, which is like a bible for the Verbal section. One can also go through the internet and download materials. This should be done everyday for 2 hours for 4 months. The Quantitaive section is more of 10th,11,12 maths. Practice from Barronds and Kaplan daily, for 3 months. Do chapterwise problems. Do not jump to taking tests until you are ready. Now start tests last 4 months. Take all the online tests possible ,CD's are available when you buy books like Kaplan , Princeton review etc. 800 score is an excellent site for tests. You also get test CD when you register for the GRE exam. Once you see your test scores identify your weak area and work on that.Don't panic initially when taking tests. At the end work towards the timing as it is very important. Timing can make a big difference in your score. A question left unanswered costs double than a question answered wrong. Don't panic if your stuck and waste time, trudge along to the next. Keep cool the day before the exam, you have worked one year so a day is not going to make a difference. Relax the day before and reach the centre ahead of time. Please do not discuss scores with students who have given the exam . Take it with confidence and an open mind. After all you have the choice to retake the exam, and all universities consider the better GRE taken by the student. It is some students Fallacy that they consider the latest one - NO. They consider the better score be it the first attempt or next. Some even take the best scores of each section from two GRE's also. So relax . ALL THE BEST.
