Should you do Aerobic Exercises or Anaerobic Exercises?

Aerobic exercise is a type of exercise that needs slow repetition of the movements but it should be repeated for a long time. This can include those exercises like walking, jogging, swimming and also cycling. Anaerobic exercises on the other hand are a group of exercises that are high repetition and high intensity exercises. These include activities like skipping and also running.

Aerobic exercises:

Each of the exercises that have been mentioned above has their own unique benefits. The aerobic exercises are the ones that are prescribed by most physicians for those who need to exercise to make sure that their risk for various diseases like cardiac problems decrease. The aerobic exercises are the ones that are also prescribed for those who want to lose weight in a healthy manner. The reason for this is that when a person goes on a diet, the fat from the body is not lost and only the water content from the body is lost. If the person does not eat, then the protein that is present in the body gets lost and used up for the normal functioning of the body. The only time when the fat itself is used up from the body is when the person does aerobic exercises.

Role of aerobic exercises in reducing weight:

The aerobic exercises are done at a slower pace and so the fat content from the body is slowly used up for the functioning of the various parts of the body as fuel. This causes a loss of the fat from the muscle and also from areas where the fat is stored. This loss of fat tissue from the body causes the person to have a healthy body and also decreases the risk of various diseases.

Anaerobic exercises:

These are also the resistance exercises that a person does. When a person does these kinds of exercises, the immediate fuel that is available in the body gets used up for the exercises that are done. This means that the fat in the body is not used to a large extent. Instead, the available fuel that is the sugar in the form of glucose that is available in the body is absorbed.

Role of anaerobic exercises in reducing weight:

The role of anaerobic or resistance exercises in reducing weight is also considerable. These exercises are also called as strengthening exercises. These are the exercises that are usually done using resistance like weights. The resistance exercises are those that help to strengthen the muscles in the body. As the muscles are strengthened, there is an increase in the muscle mass in the body. The muscle mass increase will cause the metabolism in the body to increase. This increase in the metabolism itself helps to burn fat as fuel for the metabolism. This is another factor that plays a role in the reduction of weight of the person.

Which is better?

When one asks if the aerobic or the anaerobic exercise is better, the answer is not simple. Both the forms of exercises are important. The aerobic exercises are the ones that are recommended by most Physicians as they directly burn fat. In spite of this fact, the anaerobic or strengthening exercises are also important as they help to also increase the metabolism. The best method of doing exercise to reduce weight would be to do a mix of aerobic as well as strengthening exercises, but the amount of time spent for the aerobic exercises should be more.
